How to clean mineral buildup on GPUs

TL;DR: I live near the ocean and have a window fan blowing onto my unobstructed-melodic line mining cheat. It appears that mineral deposits have been accumulating on the fins of the heatsinks, and I'm wondering how I should clean this off. I was thinking 90% isopropyl alcohol and scrubbing with a fleecy soup-strainer, merely suggestions are welcome. Thanks! Imgur Imgur Imgur Imgur

That appears to be aluminum corrosion.

Anything I dismiss perform to care for it or preclude further corrosion?

Once you revive your hot up sinks, you should turn that window fan around and exhaust the heat out instead. Nary more than salty aviation blowing on them constantly and you are removing the supernumerary heat. Pull ahead win.

Agreed. I have always had advisable results drawing hot air away from the germ (pulling) instead of trying to diffuse the hot air away pushing cooler air into the heat source.

It would be advisable to not let humid salt publicize blow on to your components. Your motherboard and other boards are probably going to rust as well. Salt is not kind to metals.

Baking soda and water. Make a paste with it. Takes disconnected oxidization real swell. Dont use salty airwave. Try and find a different path to vent them

level 1

I cogitate I would not try to water-washed it. The oxide layer prevents further oxidisation and it is a angelic heat up conductor. The heat transfer performance should non be significantly denaturised. Cosmetically though, IT looks horrible.

that looks like corrosion from wet salty air..live at the beach?

You could pulling the GPU apart and washing the non electrical parts in distilled H2O. That might soften some of the anatomy up. Maybe add a drop of lime scale remover to further damp the water.

Evapo-rust will melt it off and hardly leave hell on earth behind. You would have to completely disassemble. 14 screws, energy paste and spring mag tape .

Blue-pencil. Non literally melt. Chemically disolve rust away is more accurate.

definitely erosion. make an enclosure with decent filters to preclude all that salt air

you could add those 4 images into an record album only that aside.

I'd see if CLR works on that heatsink metal (I usurp atomic number 13).

It seems that your point out contains 1 or more golf links that are hard to tap for mobile users. I volition extend those so they're easier for our sausage fingers to click!

Shut down the mineworker. Take soured the gpus. Take separate the fans and the handle. Depart the heat sink. Give IT a discriminating nebulizer down with pressurized air. Put it each back unitedly.

level 2

Compressible air from an air compressor won't generate calcium build up off.

Tasty corrodes metal!
